3d.FAB is a Technological Innovation Platform dedicated to academic and private innovation through 3D printing, 4D printing and Bio-printing in the field of life science and health applications.
3d.FAB is hosted by Lyon1 University (UMR5246 (ICBMS) and funded by the Région Auvergne Rhône Alpes. The platform is based on a consortium of academics (MATEIS-INSA, Laboratoire de chimie-ENS Lyon, ICBMS-UCBL).
The platform is specialized in two main areas of development research:
- For biochemistry, especially diagnosis with prototyping 3D lab-on-chip, novel materials for 3D medical devices, biocompatible polymers and cell-size 3D printing,
- For regenerative medicine through dedicated living cells and tissues printers.
The platform located in the Axel’one Campus (5 avenue Gaston Berger, 69100 Villeurbanne) have the capacity to develop and scale up 3D printing concepts using thermoplastic materials, viscoelastic materials, thermoplastic-elastomer materials, ceramic materials and living material.
3d.FAB is actually one of the world leader in new technology from printing environment control. The platform is equipped with 10 different 3D printers, being able to generate 3D complex shapes with high resolution (down to 350 nm). 3d.FAB also host numerous specific equipment for material characterization such as rheometer, dynamic mechanical analysis, differential scanning calorimetry.
The platform is also autonomous in handling tissue engineering projects with its own P2-level GMP lab.
