ISQ (Instituto de Soldadura e Qualidade, Portugal) is a private non-profit making technological association with Public interest status and more than 800 staff members. Founded in 1965 as the Portuguese Welding Institute. In the early eighties its activities were diversified from welding technology to several other technical and scientific areas, and the services provided now include technical inspection, non-destructive testing, structural integrity, quality assurance, maintenance management, risk-based inspection and environmental impact studies, additive manufacturing (AM) and training. In addition, ISQ is a recognized Authorized Nominated Body (ANB) and Authorized Training Body (ATB) for Welding and Additive Manufacturing under the European Welding Federation (EWF) qualifications management system.
Over the years ISQ has focused in advanced manufacturing technologies development both for industrial applications and research activities, namely advanced welding technologies and most recently in AM processes and applications for metals (Wire Arc AM, Laser Metal Deposition and Powder Bed Fusion).
ISQ has more than 16 accredited laboratories accordingly with DIN EN ISO 17025:2005. In addition, ISQ provides specialized technical assistance services, through consultancy, for implementation of individual or integrated management systems certification/accreditation as ISO 9001, QS 9000 and ISO/TS 16949, ISO 17025 (QMS in Laboratories), EN 45000(QMS in Inspection and Certification Bodies), ISO 14001, OSHAS 18001(Occupational and Health MS), SA 8000 (Social responsibility MS).
ISQ´s mission is to contribute to the constant improvement of industry and services, resulting in an expanded international presence, by collaborating with the state, regional councils and businesses with regard to the sharing and development of technology, new products and processes, structured management practices and quality control, safety, energy conservation and environmental protection, and systematic maximization of human resources. The strategy of ISQ growth goes through an increasingly important and sustained presence in the world having offices, branches and affiliates in 20 countries.
